Family Day at London's Design Museum

Sunday 12th July 2009 - 11am to 4pm

The Design Museum will throw open its doors to families for an exciting day of fun and family friendly activities on Sunday 12th July 2009. Lauren ChildHighlights of the day will include an unmissable opportunity to meet children’s author Lauren Child who will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of her ever-popular Clarice Bean stories. The Design Museum Family Day has something for everyone with a selection of activities including drop-in design and make workshops, family exhibition trails, ‘Meet the Designer’ sessions, and children friendly exhibition tours. This is also a great opportunity to enjoy the current Design Museum exhibitions including Javier Mariscal and Super Contemporary.

All Family Day activities are suitable for 5 – 11 year olds; admission is free to children under 12. General admission: £8.50 adults, £5 students & concessions. Tickets can be booked in advance

PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES:

11am Lauren Child Talk *ADVANCED BOOKING ESSENTIAL*
Best-selling author and illustrator Lauren Child will talk about her Clarice Bean series of books which celebrate their 10th anniversary in July. Lauren will also talk about her charity work for UNESCO’s Programme for the Education of Children in Need.

12.30pm – 4pm Design Workshops
Afternoon workshops include drop-in ‘Meet the Designer’ sessions led by a talented team of designers, animators and illustrators. Be inspired to design and make your own creations. Try your hand at new techniques to bring your ideas to life.

2pm – Lauren Child Book Signing
Lauren Child will be signing copies of the latest edition of the Clarice Bean series.

Design Action Packs
Throughout the day every child visiting the Design Museum will be given a free Design Action Pack containing observation and creativity exercises to make their visit more enjoyable and informative.

Drawing areas will be situated within the galleries, enabling children to create their own designs for futuristic buildings, pieces of furniture and design products drawing on inspiration from throughout the museum.

    Thanks for that - Interesting to know. I've been to the exhibition it's just fantastic - Would definitely recommend going if you haven't already? It's running until October. I reckon a big favorite of mine was Zaha Hadid's and Nigel Coates work - have a new found respect for architecture, however, the best thing is leaving my kids at the workshop where I was then allowed to enjoy the exhibition in peace :) In fact there is a free giveaway tickets www.supercontemporary.co.uk/?s=ticket-giveaway - Hope you enjoy it as much as i did
