  • Electric Salt And Pepper Mills

The eagerly awaited Facile Electric Salt and Pepper Mills from Zack have now been released and are available from Proleno.

Zack Facile electric salt and pepper mills

Zack Facile electric salt and pepper mills

Launched at Frankfurt back in the autumn to much applause they will set the standard for high quality electric salt and pepper grinding during the 2010 season.

Of course, they have a hard act to follow as they replace the outstanding Zack Sicuro range which has recently been discontinued.

The new version has the same style, the same class and the same attention to detail as its predecessor and thankfully hasn't fallen into that rather silly idea of lighting up when in use. Novel, yes, but very quickly boring and, frankly, if it's that dark, turn the light on!

The Facile has a contemporary look and feel to it with a large flush button for ease of use as well as a simple, yet clever, little tray to sit in when not in use.

Available now from Proleno, on the web at www.proleno.com, on the phone on 0207 965 7199

The monobloc Astrid tap measures a height of 352mm with a reach of 210mm and requires a minimum 0.3 bar pressure.

Francis Francis X7 iperEspresso in red

The new Francis Francis X7 iperEspresso machine from illycaffè is sure to delight anyone who unwraps it this Christmas.

For any coffee aficionado or gadget devotee, no ordinary coffee machine will do. However, while most of us can only dream of owning expensive espresso makers, the new Francis Francis X7 makes authentic Italian espresso at a fraction of the cost.

Designed by the esteemed Italian architect Lucca Trazzi, the Francis Francis X7 uses the unique illy coffee iperEspresso method to create perfect, full-bodied espressos.

The X7 also allows you to adjust the length of their coffee, so whether your morning calls for a short ristretto or a taller lungo, your coffee will always be the perfect size under its thick, long-lasting crema.

The traditional steam wand is also perfect for creating cappuccinos, lattes and, on those rare days when coffee doesn’t feature on your menu, even hot chocolate.

With its exquisite good looks, and innovative new approach, the X7 will add a sleek and polished look to your kitchen and deliver perfect coffee, long after Christmas is over.

The X7 is available in red or black from www.espressocrazy.com.

  • Knotap

KnotapThe Knotap from London based designer Juyoung Kim. It’s designed to deliver fun and interest from an ordinary object with a message of 'saving water'.

The idea of crossing over between a knot and a water tap intuitively suggests ‘spend less’ to users in a humourous context.

I'm not entirely sure just how practical this is but it's certainly quirky and definitely a talking point as well as thought provoking.

  • High and Dry

High & Dry, a dish rack designed by Black & Blum, will launch next month after many months of design and development.
    High & Dry dish rack
The aim has been to create something extremely functional yet sculptural. They were inspired by architectural models of buildings and noticed that photos of high-end modern kitchens don’t include any dish-racks out on display. This appeared to mean that there were none that complimented the kitchens or warranted being on show. High & Dry hopes to change this.

High & Dry miraculously folds out from a flat and neat storage solution to create a unique and intriguing form. Many dish-racks fail to solve the problems of supporting wine glasses. The subtle wave of spikes creates a stunning visual wall, but more importantly a functional area to hold even your largest or most delicate champagne flutes. The design also includes an optional drainage tray which has an ingenious flip up spout so that you can chose to drain or not, depending on your kitchen set up. It is made from stainless steel and polypropylene and is packaged in a thin unbleached cardboard box, which means everything can be recycled.

A limited number will arrive towards the end of October. If you are keen to get one this year, then we advise you to email Black & Blum as soon as possible to register your details. Please register by emailing design@black-blum.com
